About
Dr. Devon Check, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Learning Health Sciences. She is a faculty member in the Cancer Surveillance and Outcomes Research Team (CanSORT) and Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation. Dr. Check is a cancer health services researcher by training. She received her PhD in Health Policy and Management from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed her post-doctoral training in cancer care delivery research at Kaiser Permanente Northern California. Dr. Check's primary research interests include quality of care and the implementation of evidence-based and guideline-recommended practices in oncology. Her projects use large secondary data analysis as well as qualitative and mixed methods to investigate variation in cancer care, the experiences of patients and clinicians, and factors that impact cancer care delivery and outcomes. She has a specific interest and established research program in cancer pain and symptom management, supported by foundation and NIH grants. Her recently awarded NCI grant investigates how the implementation of state cannabis policies has impacted pain and substance use outcomes in cancer. As a Co-Investigator, Dr. Check often provides implementation research methods expertise on hybrid effectiveness-implementation trials of cancer-related interventions. Moreover, she co-leads the Implementation Science Core Working Group as part of the Coordinating Center for the NIH Pragmatic Trials Collaboratory.
