Research Overview
My research has focused in many areas during my career. Congenital/transitional urology has been a focus and passion throughout. I published some of the earliest work on outcomes in the adult population with spina bifida a group which in the past often did not survive into adulthood. My early publications focused on quality of life and bowel and bladder continence. More recently I published the first paper on pelvic organ prolapse in women with spina bifida and have been focusing most recently on renal outcomes in spina bifida, exstrophy-epispadias complex, and other uncommon conditions. I have also focused on educational projects, publishing on gender difference in case logs, gender bias in residency applications and educational outcomes with Northwestern’s novel residency program curriculum which I developed and oversaw. Finally, I have published one of the few papers to characterize the change in fistulas seen in women Rwanda over time.
