Medical School faculty embrace honor, history and future tied to named professorships
There are many intriguing aspects to the honor of a faculty member holding a named professorship in the University of Michigan Medical School: the excitement of receiving one of the highest honors the U-M can bestow on a faculty member; an understanding of the rich history of the person(s) for whom their professorship is named; and the flexibility of what the professorship allows the holders to do during their career. On April 1, the Medical School hosted a celebration of faculty who were appointed to named professorships in 2023.

Six from U-M, including Medical School professor, inducted as distinguished fellows of National Academies of Practice
Six members of the University of Michigan community were inducted into the National Academies of Practice (NAP) as Distinguished Fellows in a ceremony held on March 16, 2024 in Jacksonville, Florida as part of the Annual NAP Meeting and Forum. The group includes faculty and clinicians from the University of Michigan, University of Michigan-Flint and Michigan Medicine.

A new hybrid training model developed with University support is helping to mitigate road traffic injuries in parts of Africa. Since launching LFR International several years ago, UMMS M3 Zach Eisner and former student Peter Delaney have trained thousands of first responders in Sierra Leone, Nigeria, and other countries with limited emergency medical response services.

Health Equity Literature Archive brings access to diverse literature to the Frankel Cardiovascular Center (FCVC) for Michigan Medicine employees
Known as the Health Equity Literature Archive, Chelsea Fisk’s goal was to cultivate empathy and understanding for people from different backgrounds and diverse identities by providing employees with access to diverse literature. The innovative pilot led by clinical researcher Chelsea Fisk served as a form of DEI education that was free to use, self-paced and barrier-free.

Nitin B. Jain, M.B.B.S., M.S.P.H, appointed chair of Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Nitin B. Jain, M.B.B.S., M.S.P.H., has been appointed chair of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the James W. Rae Collegiate Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and a professor of orthopaedic surgery in the Medical School, effective February 12, 2024. The provost provided interim approval of this appointment, and it will be reported at the February Board of Regents meeting.
