About
Christopher Girgis, DPM, CWSP is a dually appointed Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Vascular Surgery and Internal Medicine in the Division of Metabolism, Endocrinology, and Diabetes at the University of Michigan Medical School. Dr. Girgis grew up in Western Springs, IL. He completed his undergraduate studies at Taylor University in Upland, Indiana. Upon graduation, he matriculated into Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine. He completed a 3-year PMSR/RRA residency program at Loyola University in Maywood, IL, where he was a chief resident in his final year of training. During his time in residency, he developed a particular interest in the operative and nonoperative management of diabetic foot complications and lower extremity wounds. This prompted his decision to pursue fellowship training in diabetic limb salvage and wound care at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.
His clinical and research interests include diabetic foot care and limb preservation, wound care, outcomes of diabetic foot interventions, physical activity and diabetic foot ulceration outcomes, nutrition and diabetic foot ulceration outcomes, and fall prevention in podiatry.
Dr. Girgis is a member of the American College of Podiatric Medicine and American Podiatric Medical Association. He is board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine and is a Certified Wound Care Specialist (CWSP). Dr. Girgis is also board qualified in foot surgery.
When not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three children. In his free time, he enjoys competing in half marathons and reading.
