    Research Overview

My primary goals in the domain of research are to mentor trainees and junior faculty in pursuing education scholarship, to build productive communities of practice, and to advance the field of medical education through evidence synthesis. My research interests have spanned many domains within education, including teaching and learning among medical students and emergency medicine residents, the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on medical education, approaches to collaborative writing and scholarship, feedback and assessment of learners, and the emergency medicine workforce. I have been an author on several Best Evidence in Medical Education (BEME) systematic reviews and serve on the leadership team for the BEME council. I have been engaged in several grant funded projects, including one investigating the demographic and geographic alignment of the EM workforce, the use of an innovative mobile app (SIMPL) for resident procedural feedback and assessment, and the development of a community of practice of medical educators involved in coaching programs. I have mentored students, residents and junior faculty early in their research careers and encourage education scholarship within my department through monthly sessions covering relevant topics as the medical education fellowship director.
