    About

Dr. Valley is an Associate Professor in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine in the Department of Medicine at the University of Michigan. He received his undergraduate degrees in history and chemistry from Emory University, and his medical degree from the University of Miami. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Texas-Southwestern/Parkland Memorial Hospital, where he also served as Chief Medical Resident. He completed a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at the University of Michigan in 2016. During his fellowship, he earned a Masters of Health and Healthcare Research from the University of Michigan.

Clinically, Dr. Valley focuses on the care of critically ill patients and their families. He practices in the Critical Care Medicine Unit at the University of Michigan and the Medical Intensive Care Unit at the Ann Arbor VA. He is the Director of the Ann Arbor VA's Post-ICU Survivor Care, Evaluation, and Support (PISCES) Clinic.

Dr. Valley's research seeks to improve the delivery of care within ICUs. Currently, he has two main areas of research: reducing disparities in ICU care among rural and minoritized communities and ensuring that ICU care is centered around patients and families. His work has been supported by the NIH/NHLBI, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and the VA Health Services Research and Development Service.
