    Research Overview

My research contributions dovetail with my clinical passions of congenital diaphragmatic hernia, fetal intervention, and extracorporeal life support. Working under the mentorship of Drs. Robert Bartlett and George Mychaliska, I demonstrated that lung development continues during support with an Artificial Placenta and established the benefit of perfluorocarbons in the airways during this support in reducing lung injury and promoting growth. I have studied and continue investigate the application and outcomes of ECLS, including in unique populations such as premature infants and those with CDH, with special interest in neurologic outcomes. My current research is focused on prenatal and postnatal interventions for CDH and its associated pulmonary hypertension, including intra-amniotic injection of pulmonary vasoactive medications and novel drug delivery strategies in the postnatal setting.
