Supporting Role
The Office of Medical Student Education (OMSE) at the University of Michigan Medical School offers comprehensive services for students throughout their four years of study and beyond.
Student support and engagement is an important focus for the Medical School as a whole, including in key areas such as:
Community – From the first moments of med school through graduation, your student will be supported to succeed. During Launch, all students are sorted into an M-Home, a small-group base comprised of fellow med students and faculty coaches and mentors. Dedicated counselors, along with mental health, learning and disability specialists, are also available to assist medical students with personal and academic needs.
Health Care – Maintaining life balance between academic studies and personal well-being is important for healthy and successful students. As a top medical school, our students have access to superior health care resources, including stress management, dental care, outpatient services and no-cost mental health services.
Career Development – The Medical School has a long history of comprehensively preparing graduating medical students for residency training programs that match their career interests and needs. Our medical students are highly regarded and sought after as residency candidates.
Research – Many excellent research opportunities are available for students interested in pursuing primary projects of their own or gaining experience alongside a world-class researcher. Our program database offers students endless options to match their interests.
Student Organizations – More than 100 student organizations specific to the med school give students access to social, academic, identity and service-oriented groups. Students are also supported if they want to create a new project or organization from scratch.
