    James M. Scheiman, MD currently serves as the Physician on the Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Devices Team at CDRH/FDA, a position he started in July of 2022.

    He is Professor of Medicine Emeritus, Michigan Medicine, where he was Director of Endoscopic Research and the Advanced Endoscopy Training Program until 2017. Thru July 2021, he was the David Stone Professor and Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Virginia.

    Research Overview

    A Fellow of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy as well as the American Gastroenterology Association, American College of Physicians, and American College of Gastroenterology, he has received mentoring awards from both the ASGE and AGA, and his trainees have leadership positions in academic and clinical practice all over the world. He has served as an Associate Editor for Endoscopy for the American Journal of Gastroenterology as well as Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Dr. Scheiman is the author of more than 300 scientific publications and book chapters.
