Caren Goldberg, MD, MS is a pediatric cardiologist and clinical researcher focused on improving longitudinal outcomes for children with complex congenital heart disease (CHD). She cares for infants, children and teens with congenital heart disease both in the acute inpatient setting and the outpatient setting. She is the co-Director of Acute Care Cardiology at the University of Michigan CS Mott Childrens Hospital. Her research focuses on understanding and improving neurodevelopment and quality of life for individuals with congenital heart disease.

Dr. Goldberg is honored to be the Ruth H. Strang Professor of Pediatric Cardiology. She is the Director of the University of Michigan Congenital Heart Outcomes Research and Discovery (M-CHORD) Program, is the Medical Director of the Cardiac Neurodevelopmental Follow-up Program at UM and leads the Data Coordinating Center effort for the Cardiac Neurodevelopmental Outcome Collaborative. She believes that multidisciplinary and multicenter collaboration is important to facilitate answering important questions efficiently to bring better care to our patients.

I aim through my research to:
Understand and improve neurodevelopmental outcomes for children with complex congenital heart disease.

Measure long-term outcomes for all interventions being investigated for the care of children with congenital heart disease, including those with hypoplastic left heart syndrome and other single ventricle heart diseases.

Understand the social determinants of health influencing disparities and to improve equity for children with congenital heart disease.
