    Dr. Hyzy is the Medical Director of the Critical Care Medicine Unit and Co-Chair of the Critical Care Committee at the University of Michigan Hospital. Dr. Hyzy is a graduate of Kenyon College and NYU School of Medicine and trained in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Michigan.

    Dr. Hyzy is an active clinician and researcher with over 140 peer review publications and serves as editor of a critical care textbook entitled “Evidence-Based Critical Care: A Case Study Approach published by Springer, now in its second edition, and 14 topics on mechanical ventilation and respiratory support for the online medical reference UpToDate.

    Research Overview

    Dr. Hyzy’s research interests are in intensive care medicine including patients with the Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, sepsis and respiratory failure. He currently serves as the Project Director for the Great Lakes Clinical Center of NHLBI sponsored ARDS, Pneumonia and Sepsis (APS) Consortium. In the Pulmonary Clinic he participates as a Co-Investigator in clinical trials in patients with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis and COPD.
