    Dr. Hemmila is a General Surgeon in the Division of Acute Care Surgery at Michigan Medicine. He serves as the Medical Director for Adult Trauma and also as the Associate Chief Medical Information Officer for Surgery. His clinical practice includes:

    Research Overview

    Dr. Hemmila’s research focuses on comparative effectiveness evaluation of care provided for trauma and acute care surgery. He serves as the Medical Director for the Blue Cross and Blue Shield funded Michigan Trauma Quality Improvement Program (MTQIP) and Michigan Acute Care Surgery (MACS) Quality Improvement Collaboratives. He also provides expertise for the State of Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ Michigan Statewide Trauma System, the U-M International Center for Automotive Medicine (ICAM), and the Max Harry Weil Institute for Critical Care Research & Innovation. He actively mentors residents and junior faculty members engaged in research.
