My scholarly contributions range from medical education to public health with a focus on vulnerable populations and opioid use disorder. My education focus combines leadership and administration of educational programs, curriculum development, and outstanding clinical teaching and mentorship. My public health focus draws on my education background with the creation of a toolkit of resources for safer prescribing of opioids and a toolkit for the care of the post overdose patient in the ED. In addition, I am a member of a research team exploring primary prevention of opioid use disorder in young adults as well as a clinical team focused on improving the quality of care we deliver to patients with substance use disorder in our health system. I work with a multi-disciplinary team focused on the management of patients with complex medical / behavioral / social conditions. My work in these domains has allowed me to make important contributions to individuals at every level of training, the Department of Emergency Medicine, and Michigan Medicine. Recent work is allowing me to impact providers across the state of Michigan and nationally as we work to reverse the mortality trends from opioid overdose.
