  • About

My research and clinical practice are centered on technical quality improvement in colorectal surgery. In support of those efforts, I have served in several leadership positions within Michigan Medicine. Clinically, I mentor students, residents and colorectal surgery fellows
and I have served as the Director of Surgical Coaching for both an MSQC video coaching-based quality improvement project in colectomy, and as Co-Investigator for a federal RO1-funded study from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. I am also a high volume colorectal surgeon. Through the combination of clinical, operational, and scholarly work, I influence surgical quality at all levels, from the clinic to the hospital to statewide collaboratives, and at a national level in my specialty.

My clinical interests run the breadth of colorectal surgery and I have a general colorectal surgery
practice. In addition, I have unique training and expertise in inflammatory bowel disease, re-operative
surgery, multi-visceral resections for pelvic malignancy involving multidisciplinary surgical teams, and the
    robotic approach to rectal cancer
