Dr. John T Stoffel, MD, is a Professor of Urology and Chief of the Division of Neurourology and Pelvic Reconstruction (NPR) within the University of Michigan, Department of Urology. He completed his residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and the Lahey Clinic, followed by a female/neuro/reconstructive urology fellowship at the University of Michigan. Dr. Stoffel is an active clinician and surgeon, and his clinical and research interests include urinary incontinence, neurogenic bladder, and complex abdominal reconstructive surgery. He has received several federal and industry-sponsored grants to study these topics and has written over 110 papers, invited articles, and book chapters on these topics. He recently edited a textbook on the neurogenic bladder, Urologic Care for the Patient with a Progressive Neurologic Condition
He is certified in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery (FPMRS) and is a member of the Society of Female Pelvic Medicine and Urogenital Reconstruction (SUFU) and the Society of Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgeons (GURS). He is currently president of the Neurogenic Bladder Research Group (NBRG.org), collaborating with researchers across the United States and Canada. They study and publish quality-of-life outcomes in neurogenic bladder patients. He has chaired national white paperwork groups on Chronic Urinary Retention and Pre-Operative Surgical Care. He has been a committee member for Practice Guidelines and Quality Improvement/Patient Safety for the American Urological Association
