Dr. Andrew Hashikawa is fellowship trained in pediatric emergency medicine physician and epidemiology. He is currently an executive committee member of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Council of Early Childhood(link is external) and serves as one of Michigan AAP Chapter’s Early Childhood Champions. His research interests are in the health and safety of early care and education and summer camp populations. He is the creator of the Michigan Child Care Related Infectious Surveillance Program (MCRISP(link is external)) and is one of the interdisciplinary investigators for MITIGATE FLU(link is external) (Multidisciplinary InvesTIGation to Ease inFLUenza). He helped create online training courses for child care providers on the AAP’s e-learning platform Pedialink and has helped create two massive open online courses on pediatric injury prevention (edX(link is external)) and hearing loss in children (Coursera(link is external)). He co-founded Pop-up Safety Town(link is external), a community-based injury prevention education event for preschool children and families living in communities with substantial health disparities.
