Dr. Lozon is a Clinical Emerita Professor of Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics. She trained in pediatrics and pediatric emergency medicine at the University of Chicago before becoming faculty at University of Michigan in 1991. She practiced Pediatric Emergency Medicine at the Health System for 33 years. She led the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine for many years, gradually later taking on institutional leadership roles such as the Associate Chief Clinical Officer for the Children and Women’s Hospital, Associate Chief of Staff, until she was elected Chief of Staff, serving until retirement in January 2024. She also was a physician leader in the Health System’s efforts to be prepared for disasters and served as Associate Chief of Emergency Management until her retirement. She continues to advocate for disaster preparedness for children, at the regional, state, national and international level, and is an investigator on federal grants to study best practices. She has led groups at the American Academy of Pediatrics to advocate for children experiencing disaster or pandemic. She has deployed to disaster zones, such as the Haiti earthquake in 2010 to care for victims and has lectured and advocated all over the world for disaster preparedness that supports children. She has published peer reviewed literature on pediatric disaster and continues this work currently.
