Dr. Cynthia Chen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine and the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and medical degree from Wayne State University. She completed Emergency Medicine residency training at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI. Following residency, she completed fellowship training in Hospice and Palliative Medicine at Michigan Medicine. Her clinical and research interests are palliative care delivery in the ED, high stakes communication training and education, and ED utilization at end of life. She divides her clinical effort between the Emergency Departments at the University Hospital and the Ann Arbor VA as well as the University Hospital Adult Palliative Care Consultation Service.
