    Dr. Machicado earned his medical degree from Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima, Peru, and received a Master of Public Health at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and advanced therapeutic endoscopy fellowship at the University of Colorado. Dr. Machicado joined the faculty of the University of Michigan in 2021. He has authored over 70 peer-reviewed articles, most of them on pancreatitis and pancreatic cysts. He has been selected as a FORWARD scholar by the American Gastroenterological Association, which aims to support physician scientists and future leaders in GI from under-represented populations. He has been awarded the ACG Junior Faculty Development Grant for his research in chronic pancreatitis. He has served in different GI society committees, including the ASGE Standards of Practice Committee, where he has co-authored several evidence-based guidelines for endoscopic interventions.
