I am a Physician-Scientist in Nephrology with interest in various aspects related to kidney disease ranging from using experimental model systems to understand mechanisms and identify targets of interventions to care of patients with complex conditions affecting the kidney. Particular focus areas include glomerular diseases like diabetic kidney disease and segmental glomerulosclerosis, aging-related changes in kidney structure and functions, and the role of long and short non-coding RNAs in regulating molecular mechanisms of disease progression.

    Research Overview

My research is focused on identification of cellular and molecular mechanisms of glomerular disease initiation and progression. My lab interrogates kidney and other organ tissue from patients with and without kidney disease to characterize the disease-related perturbations of molecular regulatory networks utilizing highly granular interrogation methods and system biology approach to discover candidate mechanisms and target for interventions. We validate and further investigate these discoveries in tissues culture and rodent model systems of kidney disease and injury. Determining the role of long and short non-coding RNAs on these regulatory networks is a particular focus area. Furthermore, I am leading several observational cohorts and biobanks, including C-PROBE and PRECISE, and are participate in several other studies and consortia, including NEPTUNE, the Human Cell Atlas and Kidney Precision Medicine Project (KPMP).
