I am a clinician-scientist, clinical and health services researcher, and pediatric nephrologist with extensive experience with collaborative multi-center studies, big data research, and emerging research technologies. My research agenda focuses on ensuring that proven medical care and ongoing discovery is optimally delivered to patients with kidney disease. My work has furthered our knowledge of the morbidity and mortality of children and young adults with end-stage kidney disease and spurred incorporation of under-utilized data resources to better evaluate the health services provided to children with kidney disease. I use electronic health record data, administrative claims data, digital health, and advanced statistical methodologies applied to retrospective and observational prospective studies as well as clinical trials. I lead regulatory oversight of single and multi-institutional pediatric and adult human subjects research. I have made substantive contributions to multiple on-going funded studies including Cure Glomerulopathy (CureGN), the Nephrotic Syndrome Study Network (NEPTUNE), Center for Disease Control and Prevention Chronic Kidney Disease Surveillance Project, and the PCORI-funded Preserving Kidney Function in Children with Chronic Kidney Disease study. Additionally, I am the PI of the Kidney Research Network (KRN) Data Analysis and Coordinating Center, which is a multi-center electronic health record registry for pediatric and adult kidney disease. KRN has expanded to encompass all nephrology patients at its participating sites and is launching a mobile health application to facilitate deeper data collection for select participants.
