Dr. Datwani is a board-certified Obstetrician and Gynecologist with extensive clinical experience and a dedication to working with diverse populations.
She earned her Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from the University of Miami, a Master of Public Health in Global Health from Emory University, and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Michigan Medical School. During medical school, Dr. Datwani completed an Applied Epidemiology Fellowship at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), where she focused on vaccine safety during pregnancy. She finished her residency at Temple University Hospital in 2019, receiving numerous accolades including the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine Excellence in Obstetrics, and served as the Administrative Chief Resident. Her contributions included redesigning her residency program's year-long educational curriculum and enhancing their social media presence.
Following her residency, Dr. Datwani dedicated herself to caring for an underserved community at Jefferson Einstein Hospital in Philadelphia. There, she managed complex gynecologic and obstetric cases while addressing the social and cultural needs of her patients. She also played an active role in resident and medical student education, contributing to didactics and simulation training, and participated in several administrative committees, including the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program Evaluation Committee and the Quality Improvement Committee.
Dr. Datwani's Indian and Venezuelan heritage and upbringing in Latin America enrich her approach to patient care. As a native Spanish speaker, she bridges barriers in patient communication and delivers culturally tailored care, with a particular interest in supporting patients with Limited English Proficiency. She founded Clínica Nuevo Amanecer, a network-wide Spanish language patient navigation program at Jefferson Health, to improve access to care for Spanish-speaking patients. She ensures that all patients receive care that is respectful of their unique cultural backgrounds and personal preferences.
After nine years in Philadelphia, Dr. Datwani returned to Ann Arbor to join the Women's Health Division at Michigan Medicine. She is eager to continue advancing care for diverse patients within obstetrics and gynecology and to develop language and cultural support services for the growing communities in Michigan. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, photography, and exploring great food.
Her research interests focus on improving access and quality of healthcare for diverse populations, particularly limited English proficiency patients.
