Gilbert S. Omenn, MD, PhD, receives the 5th Catherine E. Costello Lifetime Achievement Award

This award recognizes a career of discovery that has made a lasting impact in the field of proteomics.

The U.S. Human Proteome Organization (US HUPO) will present the 5th Catherine E. Costello Lifetime Achievement Award for medical research in the domain of proteomics to Gilbert S. Omenn, MD, PhD, of the University of Michigan in Chicago on March 8.  Omenn will deliver the Costello Award Lecture on Highlights from the HUPO Human Proteome Project, a global initiative which he chaired for many years, and from the Clinical Proteomics Tumor Analysis Consortium (CPTAC), specifically about proteogenomics studies of kidney cancers. The University of Michigan is one of the lead institutions in this major initiative of the U.S. National Cancer Institute.

Omenn is the Harold T. Shapiro Distinguished University Professor and Professor of Computational Medicine & Bioinformatics, Internal Medicine, Human Genetics and Public Health at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. 

In addition, he will present the 9th annual US HUPO Gilbert S. Omenn Computational Proteomics Award to Bing Zhang, Ph.D., the Lester and Sue Smith Professor of Breast Cancer Research at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston for his work on proteogenomics of cancers.
